(First of all, excuse my poor English. The only often used words of that
language sounds like main() or printf() :-) ).

HideIt hides (surprising, ey?) any data within pics.
For that purpose, the information is embedded into the rustling of other
data, this means the lowest bits normally.
The normal beholder/listener cant see/hear any difference, but a program
like HideIt can extract the embedded data.
This is _no_ encryption and not sure to be undiscovered, either.
But in the case of forbidden strong-encryption in your country (like China
or USA) you can send infos anyway without even letting know your human-
right-despicing government that you want to communicate safely.
You are free to pgp-encrypt your data before you embed it, only for the
case that it is discoverd...
Since the program is fairly young, it only supports the "IFF-24"-format
_without_ packing.
You can create this for example in Photogenics by choosing "IFF-24" as
save-format and in its options "save as non-packed IFF" (or so, I dont
know the English version).
The data-format isnt that important, by the way, because you can convert
any picture-format accordingly.
There are planned more formats, but this is a long-winded complex process,
not to compare with normal datatyes-support, so the resonance counts.
P.S.: There is another program of mine in the Aminet called
misc/sci/Wator_1.27.lha (or newer version). It's a graphics-supported
hunter-and-booty-simulation.

HideIt dient dem Verstecken von Daten.
Dabei werden Informationen im "Rauschen" von anderen Daten eingebettet,
im allgemeinen also in die niederwertigsten Bits von Samples/Bildern.
Für den normalen Betrachter bzw. Hörer sind die Veränderungen absolut
nicht zu bemerken, mit dem entsprechenden Programm (z.B. diesem hier)
lassen sich eingebettete Daten wieder extrahieren.
Dies ist _keine_ Verschlüsselung und auch nicht 100%ig sicher vor
Entdeckung! Denkbare Angriffe sind statistischer und/oder graphischer
Natur.
Falls aber starke Verschlüsselung auch bei uns verboten werden sollte
(so wie in China, den USA oder anderen menschenrechtsverachtenden
Staatsformen), kann man dann immer noch Informationen unbemerkt
austauschen, indem man scheinbar harmlose Dokumente versendet oder
- besser noch, da anonymer - auf eine Webseite zum Download bereithält.
Die zu versteckenden Nachrichten kann man natürlich zusätzlich noch
PGP-verschlüsseln, so daß man selbst bei Entdeckung nicht viel zu
verlieren hat...
Da das Programm erst einige Monate in Entwicklung ist (ca. 9/10tel des
Aufwandes entfallen auf die GUI :-( ), werden als Trägerdateien z.Zt.
nur _ungepackte_ IFF-24-Dateien akzeptiert.
Diese kann man z.B. in Photogenics erzeugen, indem man als Speicherformat
"IFF-24" und in dessen Optionen "als unkomprimierte IFF-Datei speichern"
anwählt.
Im Prinzip ist das Trägerformat ja egal, da man jedes Bild entsprechend
umwandeln kann. Dennoch ist bei einsprechender Resonanz die Unterstützung
weiterer Formate geplant. Das hineinschmuggeln der Daten erfordert jedoch
tiefe Eingriffe in das Dateiformat und ist deswegen mit viel Aufwand ver-
bunden (im Gegensatz zu "normaler" Datatypes-Unterstützung z.B.).
