Note from uploader: this is the latest version I had on my HD, if you have any
newer feel free to upgrade this archive.
This is a quick recompile of the dgen-sdl megadrive/Genesis emulator
(http://www.pknet.com/~joe/dgen-sdl.html) for MorphOS. There are probably quite
some bugs/problems as I haven't played around with it alot yet so use it at your
own risk.
This archive also includes a tool called Tobin which allow conversion
of .smd rom files to .bin rom files.
DGen was originally written by Dave <dave@dtmnt.com>. It was ported to SDL by
Joe Groff <joe@pknet.com> and Phil K. Hornung <falcon@pknet.com>.
The following people have also made contributions to DGen:
Andrew Bazan <abazan@mailbag.com>
- Got DGen/SDL to run under BeOS.
Steve Snake <snake@toodarkpark.freeserve.co.uk>
- The author of the best DOS emulator KGen, was also very patient with my
stupid questions about the Genesis, thus allowing me to fix little
emulation quirks. ;)
Amy Lear <Amikins@operamail.net>
- Helped add 8-bit sound support. :)
Daniel Wislocki <wislocki@math.grin.edu>
- Improved the sound engine to be nicer to higher-end systems.
John Stiles <stiles@emulation.net>
- He works on the Mac port of DGen, and what a job he does! He wrote the
original raster engine, and also has sped things up enormously.
Dylan Griffiths <Dylan_G@bigfoot.com>
- Rewrote a lot of the string-handling code to make it much less evil-looking.
Allen Noe <psyclone42@geocities.com>
- Added screenshot functionality.
Jeff Grady <jgrady@chimera.acm.jhu.edu>
- Fixed compilation problems with gcc snapshots.
Cameron Moore <cameron@unbeatenpath.net>
- Fixed SDL joystick initialization problems.
Daniel Robbins <drobbins@gentoo.org>
- Helped fix timing problems on very fast machines.
Andre Souza <asouza@olinux.com.br>
- Added OpenGL rendering mode.
All the real/hard work to get it running on MorphOS was done by the following
people:
Sigbjørn Skjæret - MorphOS version of GCC 2.95.3
Gabriele Greco - Amiga/MorphOS port of SDL Daniel J. Barrett - Amiga version
of getopt() (http://de.aminet.net/aminet/aminet/dev/misc/GetOpt-1.3.lha)
MorphOS specific notes:
- Copy the dgenrc file to s:dgen/. If the dgenrc file is not found in
s:dgen/ Dgen will check the current directory, if it's not found
there either dgen will exit with an error message.
- dGen is pretty slow and probably only useable on heavily overclocked
CyberstormPPC cards :-(
- Sound is disabled by default edit your dgenrc file to enable sound.
More information about the rc file can be found in the dgenrc man
page.
history:
17-08-2002: - very small optimization in z80 core switch statements
08-08-2002: - Initial MorphOS compile
- fixed joystick stuff
- changes some path stuff
future:
- Try to get it running under WarpOS (currently gives a very nice
WarpOS:-).
- Make sure everything works properly.
- Release sourcecode changes (there are only some VERY MINOR changes
to the original source).
