This datatype supports PNM pictures of the following types:
P1 ascii  PBM (portable bitmap)   monochrome
P2 ascii  PGM (portable greymap)  greyscale
P3 ascii  PPM (portable pixelmap) colour
P4 binary PBM (portable bitmap)   monochrome
P5 binary PGM (portable greymap)  greyscale
P6 binary PPM (portable pixelmap) colour

It also sort of supports 16-bit variations (in that it will display
them, but maybe not ideally as it simply discards the lower 8 bits)

Multiple-image and PAM files are not supported.  If you need support
for these or have some P1-P6 files that don't display properly or
crash the datatype, please send them to me.
